What is the project?

Gladstone Regional Council is developing several Walking Network Plan which highlight the vital connections that link residents to key destinations within our communities; Calliope, Agnes Water, Boyne Island and Tannum Sands.

This isn’t just pathways, it’s also crossings, investigations, supporting facilities (e.g. shade, seating, water, lighting), anything that will help our communities get out and walk.

These Walking Network Plans allow Council to apply for Queensland Government funding for the construction of identified pathways, reducing the burden on local ratepayers.

This is an important step in identifying how to improve areas so that walking becomes an easy choice for everyone, every day.

How can I join the conversation?

Council is seeking your feedback on the draft Walking Network Plans:

  • Does the plan capture all the destinations you like to walk to?
  • Are the proposed routes capturing where you and other in your community currently walk? Is there an alternative route that would be preferred?
  • Is the plan capturing which routes are more important or used than others (primary vs secondary)?
  • What are the priority actions that are needed to improve walking in your area?

Where to from here?

Our project team will review all submissions and finalise the three Walking Network Plans. The finalised plans will be submitted to Department of Transport and Main Roads for review and approval.

Once approved, Council will be able to use each Walking Network Plan to apply for funding to support future planning, design and construction of identified footpaths.

We will continue to keep the community updated as the project progresses.
