What is the Youth Ally Project?

Preventing domestic and family violence requires deep and lasting social transformation that cannot be tackled alone. With young people a high-risk group, it is integral they are engaged in prevention activities and are given the tools and knowledge they need to make a difference and contribute to a community that is inclusive and safe for all.

The Youth Ally project seeks to create a community of practice between engaged youth advisory groups across the state by establishing a network to share practical skills and learnings. Alongside creating a primary plan, the project gives young leaders the skills they need to be an Ally to themselves. To do this they must learn to understand and navigate consent using an affirmative model, and recognise red flags that may be pre-cursors to abuse and to prevent and reduce the various forms of violence and abuse that occur between family members and in intimate partner relationships.
