What is the project?

Council is developing a major amendment for the Gladstone Region Planning Scheme which will seek to better support tourism ventures across the region.

This amendment seeks to better support tourism opportunities across the region with a focus on simplifying local-scale tourism development. Council has identified several area which could be simplify for business operators and we are seeking business, industry and community feedback.

Council is also inviting suggestions for further tourism-focused changes which would enhance these opportunities.

Council's Strategic Planning team are happy to meet with operators and community members to discuss the Tourism Amendment in detail. Request an in-person with our team in Gladstone or Agnes Water to share your thoughts.

The project team will be available for meeting at the Agnes Water Rural Transaction Centre from 16-20 February.

Where to from here?

Following the engagement period, Council's Strategic Planning team will collate the data from surveys, in-person interviews, workshops and other submissions.

The community's response to proposed changes along with suggestions for additional changes will be used to develop the draft Tourism - Major Amendment.

A public submission period will follow which will provide another opportunity for the community to share their feedback.

The draft amendment submission period is expected to take place in mid-2026.
