Planning Scheme amendments allow Council to adapt and update the scheme to changing conditions to ensure that it continues to provide an effective guide for government, industry and community.

Both Major and Minor Amendments to the Planning Scheme must follow the legislated process contained in the Planning Act 2016 and Minister’s Guidelines and Rules.

Major Amendments

A major planning scheme amendment involves substantial, substantive changes to a local government's planning scheme, which must undergo a public consultation process as a legislative requirement.

Minor Amendments

A minor planning scheme amendment is a fast-tracked, streamlined process for updating a local planning scheme that involves only administrative or minor changes, such as correcting errors, improving clarity, or making small adjustments to policies, rather than fundamental changes to the scheme's overall intent.
